My journey with photography started in my teens when I was given a small pocket camera. Nothing very technical, I just captured what I saw in my local surroundings.

In my twenties I was given a Halina 35mm camera. This is when I began to learn more in-depth about how a camera worked.

It was in my thirties that I brought an Olympus OM2 SLR and eventually several lenses and started to really understand and use my camera fully; this was mainly for general photography.

In my late forties I gave up photography because of family commitments, and we also moved from Hampton, Middlesex, to Camborne, Cornwall.

When digital photography became more popular, I started to get very interested again. I did not intend to get as involved as I had been before, so I only had a small digital camera to start with. I soon realised I missed not having an SLR, so through my husband’s encouragement I brought a Nikon D70 digital SLR and I was once again hooked.

It was in the spring of 2006 I decided to join the Camborne & Redruth Camera Club, this to learn more about digital photography and improve. I have not looked back since. When I joined it was the start of the Field Trips season, which takes place in the summer. This has been a most enjoyable part of the club, to go out and about with like minded people, to see some very interesting places near and far.

My first winter with the club I was put into the intermediate section, where I did very well and thus gained promotion into the advanced section.

For the last two years I have been competing in the advanced section. This has been quite a steep learning curve for me as the advance section has many experienced photographers, and seeing their work has inspired me to be more creative and push my boundaries. In 2009 I managed to come joint second in the advanced section league-table.

At the 2009 AGM I was elected as Secretary, so I now have a new role to play within the club.

I now use a Canon 50D with a good selection of lenses. For me photography, is not just taking images and the processing of them on my computer using Photoshop, which I enjoy very much, but the knowledge I have learned about all the aspects of flora and fauna, and the beautiful scenery where I live in Cornwall.

I have put together some of my favourite images that I have taken since joining the Camera Club. I hope you enjoy them!
