Camborne & Redruth Camera Club (CRCC) Thursday 13th May 2010
Last Thursday (13-05-10) the Club met at the Treleigh Church Hall for an evening with the members themselves giving short talks or audio/visual presentations of approximately 15 minutes duration. The Club’s President, Malcolm Jenkin, talked about the various competitions from the internal club level through to the International Salons. Though a small nucleus of members already participate with considerable success on the International circuit he felt that more members should consider this option. He explained the routes that one could obtain photographic honours, in particular by entering and gaining acceptances in PSA & FIAP sponsored salons. In conclusion he talked about the relatively new organisation called the British Photographic Exhibitions and encouraged members to enter its exhibitions, in particular the Cotswold Trophy, dedicated exclusively to monochrome images. Barbara Jenkin said that she had started to produce digitally converted monochrome images from colour files using ‘onONE’ software. She felt that often a good monochrome image gained visual impact that was lacking in the original colour image. Barbara then showed a series of images all emanating from the same original colour image by adding different effects to the monochrome image and experimenting even further incorporating additional third party software. Reg Poad (Chairman) talked about the problems recently experienced of mounted prints contorting, bubbling and even falling off whilst on long-term display in exhibition conditions. He offered a solution to this problem by solely attaching the print to the back of the cut frame mount. By this method there would be a reduction in weight and the print itself is attached only by its edges. Recent experiments have shown this to be successful. Mary Poad (Competition Secretary) reviewed the Club’s entry to the recent Cornwall Photographic Alliance’s Annual Exhibition held at Truro College. Val Burtenshaw gave an audio/visual presentation entitled ‘The making of a Boat.’ It detailed the construction by her husband David of a small yacht named ‘Bakudi’, (which is the Ibo word for ‘No Money’) from start to the final launch at Stithians Reservoir. The sequence was well received by the members. Andy Davies also showed an A/V sequence called ‘It’s You!’ which featured candid shots of members who attended the 2009 summer field trips and more recently the studio evenings. Paul Dunstan presented some archival camcorder footage shot in June 2004 as the planet Venus passed in front of the Sun. Finally Mary Poad showed on behalf of Mike Adams, who was unfortunately hospitalised, a sequence entitled ‘Forty Pieces of Advice’ incorporating apt phrases coupled with some outstanding macro-photography. Reg Poad thanked everyone who helped to make the evening a success. Following on from the theme of the opening talk by Malcolm Jenkin, Jim Tarbox made a highly successful debut on the International circuit in gaining seven acceptances, one of which was given an Honourable Mention in the Great Lakes Salon USA, Malcolm and Barbara Jenkin also had acceptances in this Salon. Malcolm and Barbara also had acceptances in the recent Sun-Coast Salon, USA which particularly delighted Barbara as this was her first Salon to give her a FIAP rating. In the 2010 RPS Digital Group Print Exhibition, Peter Keverne’s print ‘Glass Abstract’ gained an acceptance. Tonight (20-05-10) under the title ‘The Chairman Presents’ – members will be photographing first at Wheal Peevor in the jpg format only, to return later to the Treleigh Church Hall for their straight from the camera images to be projected and discussed – in other words no post processing is allowed. Finally the 2010/11 Winter Programme’s Cover Competition will also be decided. Tomorrow (21-05-10) at The Old Shire, Ramsgate, Camborne, C-RCC will be holding its Annual Dinner and Awards evening. On Sunday (23-05-10) the Club is running a Field Trip to Postbridge and Wistman Woods, Dartmoor – meeting at Postbridge at 10.00 am. |
