Camborne & Redruth Camera Club (CRCC) Thursday 6th May 2010
Last Thursday evening (06-05-10) at the Treleigh Church Hall the Club ended its 2009/10 winter competition series with its ‘Print and Projected Images of the Year’ contest. Reg Poad (Chairman) introduced Derek Godridge (Penryn Camera Club), the judge for the evening, to the assembled membership. In his opening remarks Derek said that the high standard of the entry overall presented him with a difficult task but the final selection of awards was purely his own opinion. He felt that as photographers we were living in exciting times as the Digital era was developing and he paralleled this with the mid eighteen hundreds as photography itself was unfolding. He was surprised but pleased to see the amount of creative work offered for comment and felt that this was pointing the way to the future of photography. In his commentary Derek Godridge initially talked in positive terms and gave the authors much encouragement particularly in the Intermediate Group. He said that he was looking for technical excellence in particular and commented that in some cases good images were spoilt by over sharpening and poor post production work. Derek also coined the phrase ‘Marmite Images’ in particular in relation to some of the more creative pictures, meaning he either liked them or not, there being no in between. ‘Separation’ was another word Derek used frequently, as he did not like subject material within a picture overlapping, particularly in sport pictures, but he admitted that this could be difficult to achieve. His commentary was with humour and involved the audience as he sought further information on how images were produced. Malcolm Jenkin (President) thanked Derek Godridge for a wonderful evening and for his comments frequently spiced with humour. Last Sunday (09-05-10) C-RCC ran a well supported and successful field trip to Respryn Bridge and the near-by Lanhydrock Estate to photograph wild life, pictorial scenes, bluebell woods and the Gardens. Tonight (13-05-10) again at Treleigh Church Hall starting at 7.30 pm it is the Members’ 15 Minutes Evening – members have been asked to bring work to inform or entertain. |
