Camborne & Redruth Camera Club (CRCC)

Thursday 22th April 2010

"Dawn at the Mount", Jim Tarbox, 2009

Last Thursday (22-04-10) at the Treleigh Church Hall, C-RCC was host to its near neighbour the Carnkie Camera Club for a comment evening, each showing fifteen prints and projected images.

Reg Poad (C-RCC Chairman) welcomed the visitors and then handed the evening over to Brian Pierce (CCC Secretary) and Bob Morgan (C-RCC) as the principal commentators and they in turn invited members from both Clubs to add any further comments.

There was general appreciation of the work displayed from both Clubs which included several pictures that had some original ideas giving a new slant on well known subjects. There were comments on better exposure control where in one or two instances the highlights were very close to being blown out. A wide range of subjects was shown, from landscapes, natural history to still life (table top photography) and generally it was felt that the simplicity in some pictures worked probably better than the more complex ones. Composition was also discussed and it was thought that some images required a much stronger focal point to be really effective and that the introduction of a single colour particularly red at a critical point would have helped. The mounting of prints, choice of mount colours in relation to the subject was also discussed and it was noted that the current fashion was to use white regardless. Some of C-RCC’s manipulated pictures were not to Carnkie’s liking as it was felt that these pictures were bordering on graphics or even art.

Reg Poad thanked Carnkie for bringing along some interesting work and the members of both Clubs for supporting the evening. In reply Brian Pierce thanked C-RCC for its hospitality.

Tonight (29-04-10) again at Treleigh starting at 7.30 pm is a Portrait and table top photography evening.

Last Sunday (25-04-10) the Club held another successful Field Trip this time to the Red Bull Pro Nationals Motocross event at the Landrake Circuit near Saltash. The weather was variable with some sunshine but several heavy showers. However this did not deter the members who managed to get some good action shots. This field trip was a change to the schedule and the visit to Buckfastleigh will be rearranged for later in the summer programme.
