The Camborne-Redruth Camera Club continued with its Summer Field Trip Programme with a visit to Truro (Boscawen Park) and Malpas last Thursday evening. Weather conditions were not that conducive for photography however members made the best of the conditions and managed to obtain a few images.
On Sunday (10/08/08) the all day field trip was to Buckfastleigh. The weather was much better though there were some rain showers. It was a very full day first taking in the Buckfast Butterflies and the Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary and after lunch photographing at the adjacent South Devon Steam Railway Terminal followed by a relaxing ride down the Dart Valley to Totnes. To round off the day of transport the members joined the Red Vintage Bus for a trip to the Abbey and then back to photograph around the pretty village of Buckfastleigh. Finally on the homeward journey some members stopped off at Saltash to take pictures of the Brunel Bridge.
There is only one scheduled field trip left on the Summer Programme and this is to the Goonhilly Downs Nature Reserve on Sunday 31 August.
Going Digital, a well-established company offering one day photography workshops throughout the country has reached the Southwest, and will be offering introductory courses from this summer, initially at both Cotehele House and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. July 2008 has been a busy month for members of the Camborne-Redruth Camera Club with its comprehensive summer field trip programme with two evening and two all day field trips.
The Smokin’ Chimneys Event was a real attraction for the local Club and members were placed in strategic positions to cover it and many atmospheric pictures were taken during the 15 minute light-up.
The trip to the Dartmoor Zoological Park at Sparkwell saw one of the largest turn-outs for the Camera Club. It was a return visit to the Park and it was noticeable that there had been some development there over the past twelve months. There was plenty to photograph there. Apart from the Siberian tigers, which are always a popular subject, there were bears, wolves and foxes to capture along with the water fowl and a heron who observed the group from the dead wood.
The Boconnoc Steam Fair field trip was a first time visit and the day was divided in half with members concentrating during the morning on the steam engines, veteran vehicles, tractors and the grand parade. In the afternoon the members walked down to the lake and stream and were rewarded with a myriad of butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies and other insects all of which have been in short supply this summer. It was such a success that note was made of next year’s Fair for a return visit.
Finally Porthleven was the port of call last Thursday evening and though there had been very heavy rain during the day, the evening proved otherwise. As always there was plenty to photograph there from both sides of the harbour.
Club members Charles Charlton, Jenny Goodman, Mary and Reg Poad have had work selected for the Cornwall Wild Life Trust’s exhibition which will be on show at its Allet Headquarters for the next 12 months.
