June 2008

On Monday evening there is an extra event as they are lighting up mine chimnies in the area. We are going to get to King Edward Mine for the event. We understand the light up is at 8.p.m. We can meet in Troon - Newton Road right alongside the restored mining heritage 7.30.

On Sunday (15-06-08) Camborne/Redruth Camera Club held an all day Field Trip in the St Just area (West Penwith). First, members went to Cot Valley to photograph the granite boulders on the beach at Porth Nanven. After lunch they moved further north along the coast to photograph the Crown Engine Houses at the Botallack Mine, and the Lighthouse at Pendeen. An added bonus was the abundance of damselflies and moths at the final site.

The next field trip is on June 26th at Godrevy meeting at the top car park at 07.30 pm – this is an addition to the printed programme. On Sunday 29th June there is an all day field trip to West Pentire (corn marigolds and poppies), lunch at Bedruthan Steps and finally to Crugmeer (interesting coastal rock formations nearby).

C-RCC members Jenny Goodman, Delia Trathen, Reg Poad and David Johnson have pictures included in the recently published Wild Cornwall 2009 Calendar by the Wild Life Trust, and the Club’s webmaster Paul Davis had a picture of Portreath published in a recent edition of the West Briton as part of its ‘The Big Picture’ series.

Last Thursday evening, members of the Camborne-Redruth Camera Club met at St Ives for the second evening Field Trip of its Summer Programme. The weather was fine and sunny and after photographing along the seafront the group moved on to the Porthmeor Beach area. Photo-opportunities abounded. The architecture of the Tate Gallery, surfing, waves crashing onto the Island’s rocks, people taking in the last vestiges of the day and the setting sun. All in all it was a very successful evening which concluded at the Old Quay House, Lelant.

The next Field Trip, takes place on Sunday 15 June and will be an all day affair. Members are asked to meet at the St Just car park in West Penwith at 10.00 am. The aim is to explore the Cot Valley area.
