December 2007

Last Thursday evening at the Treleigh Church Hall, Reg Poad Chairman of the C-RCC welcomed members to the final meeting of 2007. He also thanked members for their tremendous support during the first four months of the 2007/08 Winter Programme. Reg introduced club member Maurice Oates of Feock who was the judge for the annual ‘Field Trips’ print and projected images Competition. In his opening remarks Maurice said that the members had given him a difficult task as he liked to judge on technical quality, composition and presentation alone but with so many entries meeting this criterion reluctantly he had to bring his personal choice into the final reckoning. Just before things got under way Mary Poad (Competition Secretary) thanked members for supporting the field trips during the summer and also for the record entry of 96 images for the competition. New members were given a set subject of ‘Cornwall’ so that they could take part in the Competition.

Last Thursday evening (13/12/07) at the Treleigh Church Hall, Reg Poad Chairman of the Camborne/Redruth Camera Club (C-RCC) welcomed members for an evening with Richard McGee, the Club’s Vice-Chairman. Richard presented and commented on a Travelogue of the various places he had holidayed in the USA, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, New York in November, a coastal trip visiting the Lighthouses of Maine and finally finishing in the City of Boston. He not only showed some stunning landscape pictures but made the presentation even more interesting by the many anecdotes he had collected during his travels.

During the interval wine, coffee and tea was served along with a selection of Christmas goodies.

Ninety year old Reg Sweet (Treasurer) gave a short talk about the various film formats available over forty years ago and his Voigtlander and Kodak cameras he used during this period. He also showed, using a half-frame slide projector from the same era, pictures of holidays he had spent in Cyprus, Corfu and Italy.

Reg Poad thanked both members for a very interesting evening.

On Friday evening (14/12/07) C-RCC members met in the convivial surroundings of the Tehidy Golf Clubhouse for its annual Christmas Dinner. The evening had been organised by Malcolm Jenkin C-RCC’s President and members were delighted with the excellent menu and service provided by the restaurant staff. Reg Poad on behalf of the members thanked Malcolm who in his turn thanked Reg and his wife Mary for the work they had put in over the years to make the Club as successful as it is now.

Tonight is the final print and projected images competition of 2007, the subject being ‘Pictures taken during the fourteen field trips held this year’.  The judge will be club member Maurice Oates of Feock. The meeting starts at 07.30 pm at the Treleigh Church Hall.

Last Thursday evening at the Treleigh Church Hall, Reg Poad Chairman of C-RCC welcomed three new members and also thanked those members who provided refreshments and generally helped during the previous week’s Inter-Club Competition. He announced that Tim Smit of the Eden Project had been contacted and had shown an interest in C-RCC’s Audio/Visual programme ‘The Colours of Eden’ that had gained fourth place in the recent Western Counties Photographic Federation’s A/V Competition at Tiverton. A copy of the programme has been forwarded to the Eden Project.

In the RPS Creative Group’s Annual Projected Images Exhibition, Peter Keverne has had two images accepted, entitled ‘A Nap with Two Dogs’ and a ‘Rust Abstract’.

Reg Poad introduced Bryan Crick from St Ives, the judge for the evening’s Memorial Trophy Competition, who was presented with a considerable task to comment on and judge a total of 92 entries.
