The Camborne/Redruth Camera Club met last Thursday (25th October) for its second Open Competition of its winter programme at Treleigh Church Hall. Reg Poad (Chairman) welcomed guests from the Blandford Camera Club, C/RCC members and judge for the evening, wildlife photographer and chairman of the Cornwall Photographic Alliance, David Chapman.
Reg Poad reported to the thirty two Club members that in the Western Counties Photographic Federation’s Audio/Visual Competition recently held at Tiverton, C/RCC came fourth in the Club Section and as a first attempt he thought it was a good result.
With 104 entries the C/RCC members had given David Chapman a considerable task. During his judgement he gave considerable technical help and composition advice. He questioned the validity of photographing somebody else’s art work as an entry. There were some entries that were taken in the heat of the day and he advised that early morning and late afternoon were the best times to get atmospheric pictures. He also gave a few hints on photographing fungi. David Chapman was very complimentary on the Intermediate Group’s entries and some of them would have done extremely well even in the Advanced Group.

Last Thursday evening Reg Poad Chairman of the Camborne/Redruth Camera Club (C/RCC) welcomed thirty members to its weekly meeting at Treleigh Church Hall. This was one of the largest gatherings for some time proving that the Digital Photography Teach-ins are a popular addition to the Club’s winter programme.
By special request Mary Poad gave a tutorial on the resizing of digital images for projection to the specification as laid down by the Western Counties Photographic Federation. She opened the tutorial by saying that it was imperative that one must always work on a duplicate image so as to protect the original image. She then went on to describe for the benefit of members new to the club and to digital photography a basic workflow of preparing the copy for resizing. This included utilising some of the many tools available in today’s software. A more sophisticated method of preparation by using adjustment layers was also explained. Finally two methods of resizing were demonstrated.
After the interval, Philip Williams demonstrated a method of monitor calibration by using a piece of equipment known as a ‘Spyder’. The purpose was to have a calibrated image for colour correctness to aid the printing process and also for projection. Ross Williams then developed the thread by giving a clear and detailed technical explanation of printing to ICC profiles.
Reg Poad thanked everybody whose contributions had made for a very successful technical evening.
The C/RCC’s entry of five flower pictures by five individuals for this year’s Kingswood Salver competition were by Jenny Goodman, Delia Trathen, Reg Poad, David Johnson and Peter Keverne.
The inaugural meeting of C/RCC’s Audio Visual Group will take place on Tuesday 6 November again at Treleigh Church Hall.
Thursday at Treleigh Church Hall starting at 7.30pm is the second open print and projected images competition when the judge will be Chairman of the Cornwall Photographic Alliance and well known wildlife photographer David Chapman.

On Tuesday 9th October 2007 eleven members of the Camborne/Redruth Camera Club (C/RCC) were welcomed to the St Agnes Camera Club by its Chairman Keith Gray. Reg Poad (C/RCC Chairman) thanked the St Agnes Club for its invitation. C/RCC showed two audio/visual programmes that had been prepared for the upcoming Western Counties Audio/Visual competition at Tiverton later this month. One was C/RCC’s own entry and the other was the personal entry by Mary and Reg Poad. The AV presentations prompted many questions from the St Agnes members in relation to equipment, techniques and software used. A selection of prints by C/RCC members was also displayed and included examples of ‘straight’ and ‘manipulated’ digital sourced pictures. The method of presentation of the work which conformed to the accepted international standard was also of interest to the St Agnes members.
Last Thursday (11-10-07) at the Treleigh Church Hall, Redruth, twenty C/RCC members attended a practical evening of ‘table-top’ photography. This was of particular interest to new members and senior club members were on hand to give practical advice. Reg Poad thanked those members who brought along suitable items for photography especially Charles Charlton who not only brought a wide selection of artefacts to photograph but studio flash equipment as well.
Reg Poad said that he had received a communication from the St Agnes Camera Club thanking C-RCC for a most interesting and constructive evening.
Members had also been asked to bring in pictures of flowers so that a panel of five prints representing five different photographers from the Club could be selected for the Kingswood Trophy Competition. The work was selected by Club President Malcolm Jenkin and Maurice Oates.
Tonight starting at 07.30 pm at the Treleigh Church Hall, C/RCC will be putting on another of its popular ‘Tips and Hints’ digital evenings when by special request file resizing will again be one of the main topics.
