August 2007

The Camborne/Redruth Camera Club (C-RCC) finished off its Summer Field Trips Programme with two sorties into Devon. On Sunday 19 August seven members met at the recently re-opened Dartmoor Zoological Park at Sparkwell near Plymouth. Despite an unfavourable weather forecast, the group only had one light shower during its six hour stay at the Park and the overcast but bright conditions turned out to be ideal for photographing the animals, in particular the tigers. Most members finished the day with very full memory cards which included shots of not only tigers but lions, bears, deer, flamingos, pelicans, a lone fox and finally a jaguar. There was also a falconry display and members were able to obtain real close-up pictures of the birds as the sympathetic handler mingled with the crowd with bird on hand. Last Sunday (26-08-07) in glorious sunshine ten members gathered at Buckfastleigh for a day’s photography. There was a considerable choice of subject matter which included steam and diesel trains on the South Devon Railway, Buckfast Butterflies and the Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary, both sited adjacent to Buckfastleigh Station. A train ride along the Dart Valley was a must for the group with some alighting at Staverton to explore the station and the immediate countryside whilst others made the round trip to Totnes. As the Railway Trust was celebrating a pre-Beeching weekend the 1950/60s rolling stock was a nostalgic trip for at least three members, reminding them of their commuting days into London. The C-RCC members supported the recent West Cornwall’s Mineral Tramways “Sense of Place Competition” with Bob Morgan winning the coveted £200 first prize in the Redruth/Pool/Camborne Section with an evocative image of Carn Brea Castle entitled “Clearing Storm”.

Sense of Place Competition 2007 - Winning Entries and Displays.
Winning entries will be on display at The Cornwall Centre, Redruth until 31 August 2007.

During the past week C-RCC completed and sent off its first digital audio/visual entry to the Western Counties Photographic Federation’s A/V 2007 competition to be held at Tiverton in late October. The Club’s entry was based around its field trips to the Eden Project, with eight members contributing over 500 images that were edited down to form a 100 image, 7 minute A/V programme by Mary Poad and Peter Keverne.C-RCC kicks off its Winter Programme on 6th September at the Treleigh Church Hall with C-RCC’s Treasurer 90 year old Reg Sweet reminiscing about his 70 years in photography, a period that has seen dramatic changes in equipment and processing techniques, and Bob Morgan will be talking about his favourite images.

Sundays field trip is to Buckfastleigh Steam Trains and the Butterfly farm with a meet of 11.am in the car park.  The route is to take the A38 from Bodmin and then keep heading for Exeter.  The Steam trains are signed and you exit the A38 at Buckfastleigh and turn in towards the village.  The train is on the left.  Go past the station and under the line and you have reached the car park.  Hope to see you there for our final outing on the summer programme.

On Sunday (26-08-07) the Club’s 2007 Summer Field Trip Programme closes with another trip into Devon this time to the South Devon Railway at Buckfastleigh where there is a special week-end dedicated to 1950/60s British Rail engines and rolling stock. Members are asked to meet at the Station Car Park, Buckfastleigh at 11.00 am. This field trip will take place regardless of the weather as there are alternative indoor subjects in the immediate area.

Hello all, I have finally completed the revamped CRCC web site. Apologies for the delay but time has been limited due to work and home commitments, hopefully now I can dust off the camera and go out to take some photographs. The new Winter programme is online, as well as the remaining Summer programme. If the programme changes then the Web Site will highlight them. If you want anything added to the Site then use the Contact form and select ‘Web Site’ from the dropdown menu. There may be times when navigating the site you come across the old website homepage. This is because you have viewed the site before the revamp and have the web page stored in your cache. The method to return to the new website is to press the [F5] key, or delete your cache.

Happy snapping :)

Regards

Paul
