July 2007

Five members of the Camborne/Redruth Camera Club joined a small crowd at Hayle Rugby ground last Friday (27-07-07) evening for its final scheduled Field Trip of the summer programme. Their reflexes were well tested as a team of cyclists, buggy and monster truck drivers went through a series of stunts loosely connected to a story of ‘goodies and baddies’ in the world of espionage.

The all day Field Trip that was due to take place last Sunday (29-07-07) to Postbridge, Dartmoor was cancelled because of inclement weather.

The next all day Field Trip is to the recently re-opened Dartmoor Zoological Park at Sparkwell on Sunday 19 August. This is an addition to C/RCC’s summer programme.

The Camborne-Redruth Camera Club met last Thursday evening (03-05-07) at Treleigh Church Hall for the ‘Print of the Year’ Competition. This was the culmination of the Club’s competitive year, where all the winning and placed pictures were presented for judgement. This year it was a formidable task for judge Bryan Galbreith (Wadebridge) who had 163 images to sift through to find the eventual winners. In his opening remarks Bryan Galbreith explained his method of judging and how he came to his conclusions. He said he was looking for technical excellence in the first place, but in his mind that was not sufficient nowadays, so secondly he was also looking for something that bridged the gap between the Craft and an Art Form. He said that the Club had provided him with many pictures that had met his criteria. With such a big entry he decided he would not talk about every picture but made a selection so he could elaborate on salient photographic points.

During the interval champagne was provided by Reg Sweet.  Tonight is C-RCC’s Open Evening (10-05-07) where members of the public are invited to meet the club members to view their work. Just to remind you that theres a field trip this Friday Hayle Rugby Club meet 7.pm in the rugby car park for the Stunt Vehicle Show.  We understand the fences are about 3ft high so photos should be available but of course all this depends on the English Summer.  Entry fee is £8 to watch the show.

Sunday 29th July is the Dartmoor meet at Postbridge per the original summer
programme.  Again this will depend on the weather being favourable due to
petrol costs etc for a journey of that length..  The meet is the car park on
the left hand side where the toilets can be found.

As Dartmoor wildlife park is now open again the re run date will be Sunday
19th August with the timings as on the original programme - 11 am in there
car park.  This should be a brilliant date.

Our final summer outing is the Buckfastleigh steam trains where there is a
50/60s weekend on.  You can also visit the butterfly house and see the
otters.  I have been more than once and always enjoy this day.  The meet
here is in the official car park by the butterfly house which is behind the
station.

Remember all of these trips are dependant on the English summer arriving
because costs to get into places and the travelling soon mount up and not to
achieve a few images due to poor weather would really put the cat amongst
the pigeons.

Any queries ring Reg on the usual number

Best wishes.

Reg and Mary

Last Thursday (19-07-07) eleven members of the Camborne/Redruth Camera Club met to photograph the Mining Heritage Sites in the Wheal Basset and Carnkie area. For once in its summer field trip programme the weather was fine and though a little dull at first, later it was a case of ‘The evening crowning the day’ when the sun came out enabling the photographers to obtain some good atmospheric pictures and cloudscapes.

Five C/RCC members, Reg Poad (Chairman), Mary Poad, Delia Trathen, David Johnson and Clive Kingsley had work on show as part of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Photography Group’s exhibition held at Townsend Village Hall on Saturday and Sunday (21/22-07-07). Also on display was a panel of framed prints that will be on display at the Trust’s Centre, Allet for the next twelve months and the above mentioned photographers also have work included in this panel.

On Saturday (21-07-07) Reg and Mary Poad were the judges of Camborne Show’s Photographic Classes and were suitably impressed by the work entered.

The next scheduled field trip is for tomorrow evening (27-07-07) when the Club is hoping to go to the Stunt Vehicles Spectacular at Hayle Rugby Ground starting at 07.00pm. The viability of this Field Trip is being checked and members are asked to contact the Club’s Chairman for confirmation.

On Sunday (29-07-07) the Field Trip is to Dartmoor National Park meeting at Postbridge at 11.00am.

C-RCC Winter Programme 2007/08 has been published and all members should have had their copy by now. Details about this and membership can be obtained from the Club’s website camborne-redruth-cameraclub.co.uk is in the course of being updated and the above details will be published soon.
