Last Thursday (13-11-08) at the Treleigh Church Hall, Redruth the Camborne-Redruth Camera Club (C-RCC) welcomed the St Austell Camera Club to a Critique evening.

There was a good ambience in the Hall as the Clubs commented on one another’s Prints and Projected images. Both Clubs were happy to exchange technical information about cameras and lenses used and to explain how manipulations were achieved as there were several images on show that involved multi-layering which was not apparent until the method was explained.

Reg Poad (C-RCC Chairman) thanked the St Austell Club for bringing an interesting selection of work for discussion. He also thanked the ladies of the host Club for organising the refreshments.

Roy Hoar (St Austell CC Chairman) also commented on the good work that was on display and thanked C-RCC for their generous hospitality.

At the recent Cornwall Wild Life Trust’s Photo-Group’s Annual Competition there was success for C-RCC members. Peter Keverne won the Projected Images Flora Class, with Reg Poad in second place and Mary Poad Highly Commended. In the Composition and Form Projected Images Class, Delia Trathen was in third place and in the Flora Print Class she was awarded Second position.

Last Thursday evening (06-11-08) members of the Camborne-Redruth Camera Club met at the Treleigh Church Hall, Redruth for the second Open Competition of its Winter programme. There was an entry of 124 images for the judge Muriel Somerfield (Helston Camera Club) to place and comment upon. Muriel in her introduction said that as there was such a big entry time would only allow her to give a brief comment on each entry which was a shame as there was so much good work entered. To enable her to differentiate between the many contenders for the final placings she would be marking out of twenty points.

During her commentary Muriel Somerfield was critical of some inappropriate mounting which detracted from the picture and she did not have a liking for the ‘art’ images entered. She praised the monochrome work presented and felt in many cases it was superior to the colour entry.

John in his opening remarks said that he was impressed by the quality of the portfolio of prints he was asked to judge, in particular the mount cutting and presentation of the work. Later in his commentary he consistently placed emphasis on the sharpness of pictures and the top pictures and slides reflected these views.
